God doesn’t need Google—Confessions of an SEO Addict
Like most addictions, mine began with the small stuff —online directory placements. I found dozens and dozens of free directories and signed up. That’s because the name of the game is “get links into your site”. I signed up for a few ones anyone can get a listing with. Then I graduated to the social sites. They are all the rage. Well I think they are. Everyone is signing up for social sites. It’s like you don’t exist if you aren’t on Linkedin, Twitter, MySpace, or FaceBook.
Next came THE BLOG. The mantra became, “ If you don’t have a blog you don’t exist. Years ago while pulling an all-nighter on a design project, about 4:00 a.m. I turned on one of those late night television preachers. It was as if he knew not a soul was watching. All of a sudden he moved in very close to the camera and with all evangelical earnestness questioned, “Is ANYONE out there?” I think I was the ONLY one. Blogging is like that. One wonders, “If I write, will they come?” Sounds like that old philosophical question, “If a tree falls in the forest does anybody hear it? If a tree falls will it make a sound if no one is there?”
And I read, endlessly digesting massive volumes of reports, white papers, and expert’s blogs. The source of these of course are the SEO conquerors. Those who have conquered the Search Bots or whatever they are. Those “experts” in this online world of change. The guys who abide in that golden corner of Google on Page one. Day after day, I read reports, gleaning new online marketing tips, checking my Google analytics, and basically Tweating hours of my life away.
I see that hand. And there’s one over there too. God bless you. Seems that some of you have the same addiction.
Fellow SEO addicts there is hope. Here’s the counsel—
Continue to be a student of good marketing, especially as the old methods are pushed aside by the new. But, for those who are His, listen up. Never allow the uncertainty of the times to yield ground to fear, anxiety, and apprehension. There is an answer to “If a tree falls in the forest does anybody hear it?” The answer is —God hears. How much more will He care for those He loves. He who made the ear, hears you when you call. Trust in Him. Continue to commit your business to His loving care.
Here’s encouragement from an old song someone penned during my days at the Well in Austin— “I believe that God is able to do what I have asked Him to do. And if I will only trust Him, He will carry me through”.

An answer to —Should Christians love and Support Jews
Check out this interesting answer on Yedda
Why Christians love and support Jews?
There are numerous ways to answer your question. But I will approach it this way, because it is obvious from your question and that you do not know God at all. You don't seem to have the remotest idea of just how deeply He loves and forgives. You have never tasted His mercy and looked into His eyes of love. He is NOT a man. While He made all of us in His image. He is NOT like us in so many many ways. You can't project your bitterness on Him. For all the days you have spent hating others for what they done to those you love, I challenge you— take some time to truly reflect upon Him. Look into His face and press your ear to His heart. I know how to find Him by reading the Old Testament. However, it is far clearer in the New Testament. Both of which Muslims says are "Holy" books. If you want to become more like those whose lives you hate, keep hating. If you really, truly want to know God's heart on a matter—you'll have to get on your knees from the heart and look deeply into His face.
Lastly, I'm not completely stupid. From your keyword search, you are looking for people you hate to target. I could have ignored you.
God's richest blessings on you, for that is exactly what He desires to give.

Older Than Dirt

Older than dirt
by Peter Lamb
I live in a small town in Texas where the entire county is a designated nesting area for flocks of retired folks. It’s a wonderful place to live except for a few minor exceptions. One of those is that about half of the locals, well let’s just say they move at a far slower pace of life than some of us. And for unexplainable reasons they are always in front of me when I want to be somewhere NOW. I’m not talking about breaking the law here. I’d just like to be able to go the posted speed limit more often than not. I can’t tell you how many times the phrase from Pinkard and Bowden’s “Blue Hairs Drivin’ In My Lane”(1) has come to mind.
But I’m not a believer in coincidences. I truly adhere to the adage that things in life happen for a reason. I mean maybe I can LEARN from being forced to slow down.
So last week I had this crazy dream. The reason I remember this dream is because I had it right before I woke up. In my dream I was taxying a small airplane from the hanger out to the longer runway. You know the one. It’s the runway that seems miles long. The one where the distance is great enough to enable planes to get up to speed in order to lift off.
So in this dream, I’m about to fly a small plane. I’m the pilot. I have a copilot to my left. and a couple of passengers in the back seat. We’re taxying from a small narrow area out toward the really long runway. I gently pulled the lever back to inch the plane forward at a crawl. I remember telling the man to my left in the cockpit, “I’ve never flown one of these, but I’m sure I can figure it out.” As we got to the “T” intersection at the long runway, there was a small man standing in the middle of my lane directing traffic. He was smack in the middle of the runway, a man of authority. I mean he was the one who told the planes when it was their turn to be able to advance to the main runway. No planes go past him without his permission. As I approached the intersection, he held up his hands to halt me. Those hands spoke with authority. I HAD to wait my turn. So I waited. And waited. And waited. I waited an interminable long period of time. Then I woke up.
Now God speaks to me from the Word. It’s the standard by which I judge the truth of other ways He speaks. But He uses all kinds of life experiences as tools to get His points across—even dreams when I’m awake enough to listen. Knowing this, I went on to work. Right before lunch it hit me.
You see, things have been slogging along in my life lately. Even in the midst of these really trying days we are all in, I hear God saying He has good plans in store for us. I know that as surely as the sun rises. But yet, time is like molasses. Again and again, dreams keep being delayed. Bills are mounting. Money is tight. Circumstances aren’t changing. “But, I can see the runway from here,” I say. “Why is He taking SO long?”
So, right before lunch it hit me. There came that song again, “Blue Hairs Drivin’ In My Lane”. Only this time the Lord said to my heart, “I am the blue hair driving in your lane. You think those retired folks are old! I am the ‘Ancient of days’(2). I’m older than dirt(3). And I’m right in front of you.”
I could have sworn I heard Him chuckling. I gotta tell you, I laughed right there in my office. Hope nobody heard me. I know I’m really slow at understanding His ways. But I think I get it. There’s surely no way around Him. Best take it easy, rest and enjoy life where He has me. And be ever alert for the beckoning of His hand telling me—now fly!

LambCreek wins an award at the Christian Festival in Puerto Rico

September 19-20, 2008 in the town of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, more than 550 people were part of the first ever Short Film an Art Design Christian Festival. The festival was held in the “Excelsior” theater where the attendance was so large the overflow packed a large tent outside the theater. Both were areas were filled to capacity. During the opening acts the mayor of the town gave a proclamation to the Ministry Mordecai Productions congratulating them and challenging each to continue realizing this event for years to come.
During the evenings, 130 short films representing more than 15 countries were presented to an audience consisting of government officials, directors, producers, graphic artists and the general public.
As a way of encouraging Christian artists from other countries, LambCreek submitted a poster design to the festival. That poster was recognized with an award for excellence in art designs.
“I just want to let you know that you graphic design title “Hope” won the Art Design Contest in the First Short Film Christian Festival in Puerto Rico. Thank you for your support and I hope I can count on you next year.” Lester RivĂ© Padilla Director, Mordecai Productions

LambCreek Creative Services: Kemper Crabb-The Vigil-Christian cover design

Kemper is among the top most poetic Christian lyricists and musicians of our time. His Vigil album is hugely inspirational even today, years after it was originally produced. We built the set for this and shot it in the studio of Frank White Photography in one very long day. Thankfully Kemper is theatrical, which made this task a whole lot easier.
Christians and the creative arts—Push for Originality

For those of us who make our living in the the creative arts, we are all too often pressed and molded by deadlines that crowd out originality. It's "the tyranny of the urgent" as someone said, maybe Yogi Berra. The " art" part of design is set aside by a collection of borrowed stock images and backgrounds we so easily gather.
Occasionally I am able to push away from the time/budget box and regain originality.
A number of years ago, I created a poster and cover for a teaching series by Dr. Ed Young, Second Baptist Church, Houston called BATTLE STRATEGY.
It is still among my top 10 favorite poster/sermon series covers I have ever created. To produce it, I hand-crafted a 5’ sword out of folded paper, leather, wood and plaster of Paris. Scripture for the background was created with photocopy cut-outs of old hand calligraphic type. Everything was then photographed in pieces. Those pieces were photo-combined and transferred into the design.
Second Baptist kept the real wood and paper sword under glass for a number of years. I’m not sure where it is today.
I believe that originality, if it's clean and pure, can honor the One who put creativity in Man when He made us in His image. On occasion we can look on the work of our hands and say, "That's good."

LambCreek Creative Services helps clients give back
If you have never worked with LambCreek before, then you are eligible. It doesn’t matter how large or small your project is, 10% of the total billing will be sent to the ministry of your choosing upon completion of your job.
1. We agree upon a price for your project.
2. After the project is complete and LambCreek receives your final payment, a check will be sent to your designated ministry choice. We’ll photocopy the check to verify that we have sent the agreed upon amount. That verification will be mailed to you confirming that the “10% Gift” was sent and when.
3. We’d prefer your choice were a ministry other than your own. That way it is a “gift” and not a rebate. It’s another avenue for both of us to serve others in a small way.

Battle Call Ministries logo-Christian graphic design

Battle Call Ministries logo
It is a blessing to see and hear the call of God in individuals lives. In this case, the Lord called this young man out from a successful secular career track and set him apart for himself. Battle Call Ministries exists for the purpose of sending a clear message to the church that the hour is very near for His Coming.
This version of the logo was not the final, but it was my personal favorite.
King Comp—logo-Christian graphic design

King Comp—Logo for a comp service for ad agencies
King Comp was a service I created and had Federally trademarked. My friend, fun-loving Aaron Soderburg was working for me at the time. His wonderful, quirky and light-hearted view of life comes through so well in this logo he illustrated.
No stock art. This was all from scratch.
Church in the City—The worship album-Christian cover design

Church in the City—The worship album cover design
This was the first album cover I ever designed. It was for my church in Houston-Church of the City (which later became Vineyard Christian Fellowship-Houston).
Of the many, many things God was doing in and through us in those days, one was that our church became a gathering place for many gifted artists of all kinds. God drew actors, dancers, artists, writers and musicians.
Darrel Harris, the founder of Star Song Records sat with me on the eldering board of CITC for years.
The concept of this was that the root of all our worship is Jesus. His pure sacrifice is the basis of all true worship.
Concept, art direction, and design (Original illustration—Peter Lamb (my psudonym) and Al Chinchar)
Petra—This Means War Album-Christian cover design

Christian warfare starts and ends before the Lord. After all, He is the vine and we are but the branches. Indeed we can do no good thing except He guides, directs and inspires.
I knew what I needed to convey in this, but the "how" was the trick. Truthfully, while I detest the intent of the WPA era Russian propaganda posters, they are effective and powerful. I needed a graphic that evoked that kind of emotion. I stumbled across an old engraving of a man in prayer in the square of a stylized city. The talented Chris Hopkins (a brother in Christ) was commissioned to illustrate the art based upon the old engraving. We of course put the sword and shield in and made the clothing more contemporary.
Sharee Moore-Stolen Angels Christian book cover design

This book is a powerful account of families who have lost children during pregnancy. The author knows firsthand of that heart break. Her authorship and editing are first class and deeply moving.
Stolen Angels is another example of creating the whole enchilada in house, from concept through photography and design, no "canned" stock photos or off-the-shelf solutions.
Senior Care— Logo-Christian graphic design

Senior Care— Logo for a youth ministry that used concerts to raise money to help the elderly poor.
Thanks to Grant Wood and his timeless American Gothic and my good illustrator friend-Jeff Sansom.
KAYLEE TUCKER—Ignited by Truth-Christian book cover design

KAYLEE TUCKER—Ignited by Truth Book Cover
Kaylee has a wonderful testimony of God's powerful restoring grace.
I loved working with her on this project. One of the reasons was the challenge of fitting everything into her budget. It caused me to become a "do it all" solution house. So from concept through design, photography and illustration, all of it was borne at LambCreek under the encouraging inspiration of the Lord. I'm not sure how many photos I shot, somewhere in the range of 8-15 or so. It was fun.
Petra—Back to the Streets-Christian Album cover design

Petra—Back to the Streets Album Cover
What a blessing to be able to work with so many types of Christian artists, each called to communicate in the heart languages of our culture.
Just as with a music band, few design projects are "one man band" creations. This one was a joint effort with the band, Toni Fitzpen of Star Song, and my good compadre and Illustrator bud-Randy Rogers.
Steve and Annie Chapman—Bind Us Together-Christian cover design

Steve and Annie Chapman—
Bind Us Together album
I loved working with Steve and Annie. Once when we working on a different cover together I asked him if he spent much time learning the technical complexities of a sound studio. He made a statement to me I that has burned in my heart ever since. He said, “I choose to fail at some things that I might succeed at others.” He clearly meant he intended to succeed at being a godly husband and father. (Steve, if you ever read this, thanks for planting such a sound truth in my heart.)
The concept of this project came fairly quickly and needs no explanation about what it is representing. My friend Jeff Sansom illustrated this for me and nailed the intent exactly of what I had in my mind and heart.
Star Song Records logo

Star Song Records—
Logo for an internationally recognized Christian record company
I designed this logo for Darrell Harris and Wayne Donowho of Star Song years before a similar logo was created for my favorite team-the Astros. I am very proud of this as I'm convinced it was exactly the right design for them.
I illustrated the star with a Japanese brush to preserve an artistic, human touch.
Dr. Ed Young—Battle Strategy-Christian graphic design

Dr. Ed Young, Second Baptist Church, Houston—
Battle Strategy Teaching Series
Packaging and Poster
I created this a number of years ago, but it is still among my top 10 favorite posters I have ever created.
To produce it, I hand crafted a 5’ sword out of folded paper, leather, wood and plaster then silk screened the type for the background. All that was photographed in pieces. Those pieces were photo-combined and transferred into the design.
Crafting custom work-Christian graphic design

I have a firm conviction that as a Christian Art director/Designer, whether I am creating for a ministry or business, it all can be service to Him. I consider it all ministry.
As a result, I always try and avoid "canned" approaches. So, probably 90% of all my work is original art or photography commissioned either from outside sources or photographed in-house then illustrated on top of. This assures that your project isn’t an off-the-shelf, cookie-cutter solution, but is prayerfully crafted for your unique purpose. When I do use stock imagery, it is never that image alone. I will always spin the work into a new creation.
In the months and days ahead, it is my hope to provide "thumbnail" stories behind some of the projects you may or may not have seen over the years.
In all my "blogging" I will be using the pseudonym "Peter Lamb" as I am a full time Creative Director at a local ad agency by day and do my LambCreek work after hours. I prefer not using my real name so as not to detract from my "day-job".
